Pastor Kline’s personal testimony of salvation and call to the ministry

Hi friends. I grew up with virtually no church, religion, or Bible knowledge. When I was 22 years old, I had a longing to know if the Holy Bible was true or not. I was tired of everyone giving me a different answer as to what the Bible says. For example, some groups teach that their denomination is the only way to heaven. Other denominations teach that all roads lead to heaven. I decided to go to the source and read the Bible for myself and see what Jesus said for himself. Before I finished the gospels (the Bible books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) the gospel was clear to me. That is, I realized that I was a sinner and unworthy of heaven. My sin burden was very real and I had to make a choice; either pay for my sins myself by spending eternity in hell or ask the Lord Jesus to forgive me of my sin. The Bible told me that Jesus died in my place to pay for my sin and that He came to save me from hell. When the gospel sunk in, (moved from my head to my heart) it was an easy decision.

Since Christ died and rose again, I could receive the free gift of eternal life simply by repenting and asking for it. Since that day in April of 1981 I have been assured of eternal life. Not that I ever deserved it, either before or after that time, but the assurance came because of what the Bible says concerning salvation.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

A few years later God made it very clear to my heart that He wanted me to become a preacher. At the time I had a business, a wife and two small children. The house was sold, the business dissolved and we relocated to attend Bible school. Before I was finished with Bible school a pastorate position became available so I finished my schooling while in the pastorate. I entered the pastorate in 1987 and have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing the good people of VBC and serving the Lord with them since 1998.
